May. 21st, 2007 12:14 pmI'm not a present person. I don't like receiving gifts on various special occasions. Obviously, then, I don't buy myself birthday gifts. (I need to get better about remembering that 99.9% of the world doesn't feel the way I do--the golden rule is not the best code of conduct for me with regard to people's birthdays.)
In another day and age, people would memorize a poem in honor of someone's birthday. Well, I'm not going to memorize a poem in honor of my birthday, and I wouldn't want anyone else to do that, but I like the idea of accomplishing something, rather than buying something, to celebrate/honor the day.
So that's what I'm gonna do. It might be something I can start and finish in one day, or it might be something I'll start today and finish over time. Either way, I really like the idea.
