I don't like the way reading novels makes me feel.

I suppose I used reading as an escape when I was a child, and now reading fiction brings back some element of what I felt then.  I don't like the way it's possible to get so absorbed in a story.  I don't want to want to be absorbed in an alternate reality.

TV can be an escape as well, and sometimes I can feel it frying my brain, but it doesn't evoke the same emotions.  I didn't watch a lot of TV as a child.

Then again, maybe it's just my choice of novel--We Need to Talk About Kevin.  Still, reading narrative nonfiction and essays feels so much better.
