Back in college one of my friends taught me a good trick for using up pennies. (I don't collect enough change to add up to anything in those supermarket coinstar machines, but I end up with huge amounts of pennies...which would still only add up to $1 or so, which is barely worth the effort...a $1 Amazon gift card is annoying. And what else can you do, throw them away? Piss off a cashier? No thanks.)

Use them to buy single stamps at postage machines--the big machines that sell both booklets and different single stamps.  They take pennies, because stamps come in weird denominations.  And they're machines, so they won't get annoyed when you buy something with 42 pennies.  And in the internet age, it takes forever to go through a whole booklet of stamps anyway, so buying a few at a time makes sense.

I find this extremely brilliant and useful for some reason.
