Apr. 26th, 2008 02:28 pmI read Germaine Greer in high school. (I can't remember if it was The Female Eunich or The Whole Woman.) But I can't remember how I felt about/reacted to her ideas. Looking back now at what a naïf I was at that time, I can't imagine reading either of those. Or rather, I can't imagine reading them and having them not leave a clear and immediate mark on me, which they don't seem to have done.
I sought out and read a lot of weird (for a mostly-obedient Bais Yaakov girl) stuff in high school. I'm glad I did, but man, I wish I'd seen the effects sooner. Or maybe I'm mis-remembering. I used to remember things--how I felt at particular times, random events--so well, but as I've gotten older those things get pushed out of my memory by other stuff.
