Yesterday while I was in Suburban Mall Hell waiting 30 minutes for Costco Pharmacy to tell me that they were clean out of the psychiatric drug of my doctor's choice and unable to fill my Rx, I went into Petsmart.  Apparently Petsmart does grooming, 'cause when I was standing in line to buy something for George, a groomer came by with a lovely excited lab-border collie mix. The dog headed toward me, but despite my huge smile, the groomer was totally all business:  "leave the nice lady alone!"  followed by a yank on the leash.

Having a goofy dog lunge at her was the least horrid part of the nice lady's day.  The nice lady needs to stop going shopping, like, ever, and just get a goofy dog of her own to go on walks with.  Walks around parks, not around crowded shopping malls.

This (vitamin/mineral/supplement powder) is exactly what I've been thinking would be a genius idea.  It's stuff you add to meat to make nutritionally-balanced cat food.

I have a nagging worry that maybe stuff like that still isn't balanced enough--no AAFCO (or the feline equivalent) feeding trials or whatever, but I suppose that's silly.  I dunno.  Commercial cat food is full of starch, which isn't healthy, and then there's the whole contamination problem of late...but then when I've looked into things, it sounds like if your cat/dog doesn't get the exact correct proportions of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, protein, etc then OMGhorrible things will happen.  I don't really know--I'm not sure how much leeway there is in proportions and minimum daily requirements or whether the average run of cat food is truly balanced as feeding trials would dictate it to be.

Also, in the department of "damn, that's stupid" is the cat toothpaste I saw in Petsmart...that contains sugar (aka "dextrose").
