Sep. 24th, 2007 09:04 amWhen I was 11, years before my English teacher introduced me to Bartleby the Scrivener, I adopted the whole "I'd prefer not" routine as a [more polite?] way to say no [with less difficulty.]
Somehow that expression gradually faded from my vocabulary, and I think my life was worse for it.
