I seem to remember learning (in an anthropology class?) that cats and dogs were so successful in domestication, in spite of their relative uselessness to us (we can't milk them after all) becuase of their large forward-facing eyes which distinctly resemble a human baby's facial features. Scary to think we are that easily manipulable, but I buy it 100%. I even named one of my cats "Baby" and cradled him in my arms like one all the time....
