well-intentioned but misguided

Someone once admonished me thusly (yeah, I said "thusly."  Take that, American Heritage usage panel!):

don't be The Woman In The Bathrobe.

But you know what?  No one sets out to be the woman in the bathrobe.  It's not "Who shall I be today?  Superman?  James Bond?  A mime?  No, I'll be The Woman In The Bathrobe!" 

And that phrase goes through my head every time I find myself unintentionally still in pajamas in the mid-afternoon, even though it was said to me six or seven years ago.

*flush* 

Anyway, I'm dressed now. Maybe I'll put on whiteface and go annoy some people by pretending to be trapped in in a box.
