"Puppy is not being petted and has no name"
Are they trying to make me cry and want to run over there? (Actually, I suppose they are, seeing as how they're trying to re-home it.) And why would someone not pet a puppy? *boggles* I really have to stop reading craigslist pets section until I'm ready to get a dog. Besides, I have no problem adopting an older dog, so it would probably be nobler to get and older one since they're harder to place.
With George, it was a matter of "could I easily give him a better life than he has now" (living on Baltimore's rat-infested* streets in mid-winter), and that was an easy yes, although I'm sure he'd be happier if he had a puppy. It's tougher with dogs, and I think (forgive me, George) that I hold myself to a higher standard with dogs because I like 'em more.
It's funny how I hate the concept of "designer" dogs like puggles and cockapoos, but the idea of mutts with a few of my favorite breeds mixed together (Lab, Weimaraner, Viszla, German Shepherd, Irish Wolfhound, Border Collie--someone actually as a BC/Irish wolfhound mix up for adoption) makes me grin.
*many rats were probably larger than he was, so they posed a threat.
