Note that none of these are about gun ownership.
[Poll #1025917]

edit: I'm giving y'all the benefit of the doubt and assuming that if you've used a gun, you learned about gun safety and a teeny-tiny bit (at least) about how to use one before you did.

i'm kinda 1-2-3 man...choices wise. i've fired a gun before. i kinda want to learn to fire a gun more, cause i had fired a shotgun at like the little plate things. and i have imagined in hypothetical emergency situations, where i would handle a gun. however in order for hypothetical emergency situation to occur correctly and accurately, then i would think i'd need a little 2 happening, because a shotgun or the shotgun i had used is a bit different from say a handgun. and handguns are the usual firearm one might carry on themselves.

and the odd thing is that i'd be fine with firing a gun at a gun range on a regular occurence or not too regular occurence, but i wouldn't own my own gun. same deal with say a bow and arrow.

To digress, and risk derailing this; for the normal person, in the normal circumstance, a handgun is the best weapon for personal defense.

Shotguns have to be aimed (at indoor distances a "moderate" (which is standard) choke will cause a pattern spread of less than 3 inches at 30 feet.

The are also harder to manage in enclosed spaces, and easier to have taken away.

I feel pretty much the same way, except that I've never fired a gun. I'd use one (not on a range or in a deserted area) in some emergency situation though I'd very probably need to learn before doing that correctly/safely, and I highly doubt I'd want to own a gun (unless the US changes an enormous amount into some very different sort of place.)

I made the poll 'cause I guess I generally hover between 2 and 3, and 2 makes a lot more sense to me. I'm considering taking a class on shooting/gun safety at some point.

I use a gun in my work, and have fired a number of them, which includes machine guns.

I teach people how to use guns.

I teach people how to use guns better than they do now.

The hypothetical circumstances most people ponder are things I have trained to react to, and deal with.

I plan to learn how to use a gun sometime in the near(ish) future. Any suggestions on choosing where/how? (I've looked at one-day classes offered by shooting ranges/gun clubs.)
