Hammock Idea has been replaced by Futon Plan, which involves a used wooden frame and a new mattress.

I have a number of friends that have had futons for beds when they moved out of dorms. They were all very, very happy to get off the futon and into normal beds when the time came for a bed replacement.

Yeah, I realize futon !=bed, but taking into account a)finances b)potentially short duration and c)having slept comfortably on a futon last week, I think I'm gonna go for it. I think a comfortable (ie good quality) new mattress would be too expensive, and a used mattress would be psychologically uncomfortable.

I've been sleeping on a futon for the past three weeks and it's actually been quite comfortable. Some are better than others I guess.

I think that's probably it. My unfortunate realization has been that there might be a price/comfort correlation with futon mattresses. I guess I'll see.
